Food Series
When I asked a fellow artist to model for me while I was doing my Head Series, he said he would, but only if he could eat his lunch while he was sitting. I became as enchanted by the food as I was by him! And so, a whole new printing opportunity emerged. I began to order in! All kinds of food arrived….from sushi, lobsters and oysters, to McDonalds burger and fries, pizza, breads, doughnuts, coffee, ice cream sundaes, martinis, deserts, breakfasts, and everything in between!
The food provided the venue for me to pursue my taste for printmaking. For me, the key to monoprinting is the delicate balance between accident and control…the push and pull between giving up control to discover the accident and retaining control for the intelligence of the print. The skills that are inherent in the act of painting are exaggerated and magnified in monoprinting. I work to keep each print fresh, and, at the same time, to achieve depth and a layering of ideas. I look for the vitality and versatility of the mark.
